The Toyota 86 is a jointly developed sports car with Subaru and is closely related to the Subaru BRZ. The development team was made up of engineers from both companies, and Toyota was particularly attracted to Subaru's expertise in building horizontally opposed engines with a low center of gravity, which are ideal for sports cars. The Toyota 86 went into production in April 2012 and was the first Toyota sports car for five years, following the demise of the MR-S in July 2007. It is powered by a 2.0-litre FB20 engine, also used in the Forester, XV, and Impreza, but modified with a short stroke to achieve high revs for more power and efficiency.
